Hey all,

I've been home from the hospital since Thursday night 8:30 p.m.  I checked in at noon on Wednesday and was walked into the OR at 1:00.  Surgery was done at 2:50 and everything went great.  A little nausea in the hospital but for the most part everything was perfect.  I abused my morphine pump just a little bit but I'm doing okay on my liquid vicodin right now.  I still haven't had a BM since the night before surgery so I'm a little worried about that next.  I still can't take in more than 2 oz at a time and I feel like all I do is try to get the water in.  Onward and upward!  Hope all my November buddies are doing great!

That was very fast. I was in on Monday and home Wednesday, and I thought that was fast.

I did my bowl prep Sunday night and didn't have a BM till Friday. They told me if I didn't have on on Friday I'd have to take a Dolcolax suppository.
So I'd say give yourself 5 days to have a BM then try a suppository. If that doesn't work (and I'm sure it will) call your surgeon.
The liquid vicodin will REALLY make you sleepy.  If you're using it, your feeling it.  I am now using mine only at night to get rid of the small pulling I still feel. It doesn't hurt, but my mucsles are so tense I just can't relax them yet and can't fall asleep because of it.
BE VERY CAREFULL with the vicodin. it's very addictive.

Thanks Darlene,
Yeah, I'm still needing the vicodin and can't sleep in my bed because it hurts so bad.  I've been sleeping in a recliner in the living room because when I tried laying in my bed, it felt like I was pulling things apart.  Glad to know I'm not the only one with that problem.

Glad you are home. It took a few days for me to have a BM as well. I'm almost 2 weeks out and just started sleeping in my bed about 3 nights ago. I still feel a little tugging.

those narcotics can do a number on your bowels...plus, less in, less out.  I had surgery 11/12 and just had my first BM - i was excited it came so soon.  My surgeon told me that i shouldn't worry unless i had discomfort or more than a week went by.  After a week he told me i should call and they would probably suggest Milk of Magnesia.

I love how we can all talk about BM's so openly and freely here!  LOL!
